
With over 19 years of physical therapy experience, Rafael is committed with the most up-to-date evidence-based practice along with a focus on best care standards acquired throughout his years working in several clinical settings.
Rafael obtained a Bachelor in Science of Physiotherapy from University of Santa Cecilia in 2004. In 2005 he enrolled in post-university studies in sports physiotherapy at Federal University of Sao Paulo and was invited to be an assistant professor at Paulista University in 2007, and became Associated Professor by 2009, teaching classes in physiotherapy assessment and semiology, orthopedics/trauma and anatomy. Anatomy is one of his passions, leading him to pursue a Master of Science in Cell and Structural Biology with emphasis in anatomy in 2013. His area of research was muscle biology and healing properties associated with the inflammatory process.
Rafael was granted the title of Orthopedics and Trauma Physiotherapist Specialist by the Brazilian Physiotherapy Association consistent with his main area of work, He also has treated patients with stroke, Parkinson’s, TBI and other neurological syndromes. He has great experience with treating the geriatric population and those with various chronic diseases. Currently, he is also Affiliated Clinical Educator of Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FRM- University of Alberta).
Rafael’s treatments include dry needling, Mulligan, and isostretching (postural techniques). He has also taken courses in concussion and pain management. His strong manual and educational skills provide the best experience and results for his clients.
Also, he is the ONLY Physiotherapist in Alberta with training in Fascial CounterStrain, a therapeutic, hands-on method, designed to release spasm in all tissues of the human body.
In his spare time, Rafael spends time with his family and stays active with sports such as soccer and biking
