Synergea Introduces Silvia Henning, R. Psych (M.C., BA)
Silvia Henning, Registered Psychologist, is experienced in providing counselling and training services for children, adolescents, and adults. Through collaboration in a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment, she works to help clients acquire self-awareness of both strengths and concerns to achieve personal, academic, or career goals. She easily connects with her clients and tailors interventions to each individual.
Silvia was born and raised in Calgary, completing both of her degrees at the University of Calgary. Before dedicating her work to the practice of psychology over 10 years ago, Silvia’s career was focused on human resources management, non-profit program management, and career development in a variety of contexts. Since completing her Master of Counselling degree and registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) in 2015, she has been offering counselling, education/training in non-profit, educational, and private practice settings.
Silvia also offers counselling to address personal concerns such as anxiety, stress management, communication, ADHD, organization, screen time and media use, sleep hygiene and insomnia, emotional regulation, managing illnesses and return to work, academic and social challenges, parenting, and career counselling. She uses evidence-based treatment approaches in counselling including cognitive behavioural therapy, solution –focused, emotion -focused and mindfulness-based strategies. She offers individual counselling both onsite and through telehealth (secure online platforms).
In both counselling and assessment, Silvia believes that understanding one’s experience requires a view of the person as holistically functioning in physical, social, psychological, and spiritual domains, with each of these domains interacting with the others. Her goal is to allow each client’s story to be heard from their point of view, helping a client create awareness of their potential and helping them transform this awareness into action. While she provides support and encouragement on the journey to create a meaningful, healthy, and fulfilling life, Silvia ultimately believes that each person is responsible for themselves and that they have the capacity and resources within themselves to create change.
Silvia is also experienced in creating and facilitating high quality training/educational programs for both students and adults in various sectors and across a wide range of topics. She has developed content and delivered presentations to the community in areas such as stress management, bullying and harassment prevention, respect in the workplace, emotional regulation, legal and employment matters for returning to work after illness, understanding the social-emotional needs of gifted learners, and sleep strategies for children and adolescents.
Outside of work, Silvia has a growing family, loves nature and being active, playing games, cooking, and crafting. She is also an active community volunteer, having worked with organizations such as Wellspring Calgary, Calgary Minor Soccer, the Canadian Red Cross and the Calgary Catholic School Board. She is passionate about helping others and looks forward to working with you.
