Dr. Elaine Screaton

Elaine is a native Calgarian who grew up in the Northwest Calgary community of Varsity, and has always led an active lifestyle. Having participated in a variety of sports including volleyball, baseball, basketball, field hockey, track & field, and competitive swimming, she appreciates the benefits of chiropractic care to enable and facilitate the continuance of living a healthy, and active lifestyle. Having worked at Silver Springs Golf & Country club in member services for 9 summers, she has developed many positive relationships within the northwest community of Calgary that she looks forward to educating on the benefits of not only chiropractic care, but the multidisciplinary care offered at Synergea to facilitate health and wellness in a holistic and integrative manner.

While attending the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, she was a starting leftside on the UWO Mustangs Volleyball team for 4 years. In her last year, she captained the team to a 1st place finish in the Ontario University Athletics Division, and a 6th place finish at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport National Championships at Laval in Quebec City. Elaine graduated with honours Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree.

Being a chiropractor is a family affair for Elaine, as she has an uncle who is a chiropractor in Sherwood Park, AB, and a great-uncle who recently retired as a chiropractor in Calgary, AB, and she is very excited to be the 3rd member in her family to be a chiropractor. Elaine attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, Ontario for her Doctor of Chiropractic degree and will graduate in June of 2015. While attending CMCC, Elaine has been involved in many activities including CMCC’s Students’ Council, technique clubs, CMCC Admissions Interviews, and leading an exercise program for seniors at a retirement home in the GTA. While at CMCC, Elaine was fortunate enough to be recognized as a recipient for many awards for her academic standing and commitment to the school and community, including the prestigious Jane Mannington Memorial Award, Canadian Chiropractic Association’s President’s Award, and the James K Morrison Award. Academic awards received while attending CMCC include the John Wallace Memorial award for 2nd highest cGPA after year I, and the J.W.A. Duckworth Memorial Award in Anatomy for highest cumulative cGPA. As an intern, she has enjoyed her placements at CMCC’s campus clinics, which has offered great diversity and challenges in patient management, including the opportunity to treat children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.

As a chiropractor, Elaine believes in a patient-centered approach to promote the diverse and unique needs of her patients. Additionally, she views health as a journey and something that is always evolving, and she believes wellness can be best attained by being striving for emotional, physical, social, and spiritual harmony. As part of the initial consultation, Elaine looks to take a detailed history and perform a thorough physical examination to get a clear picture of each patient, allowing her to tailor her treatments to the individual. As part of the treatment, Elaine focuses on restoring mobility of the spine and extremities through manual adjustments or mobilizations, while incorporating soft tissue therapy and rehabilitation as indicated to further help the patient on their journey to wellness. In addition to her primary methods of care, she also has experience with Thompson Technique (use of drop tables),  casting custom orthotics through the Orthotic Group, and use of the Activator Instrument as an adjusting tool, all of which serve to enhance her patient centered care and promote healing. As a chiropractor, Elaine desires to create a strong family practice, facilitating vitality for all ages. Elaine’s certifications include Diversified Chiropractic Technique and Active Release Technique.  Check out https://www.drscreaton.ca/

As a practitioner at Synergea, she hopes to inspire her patients while providing the care needed to assist them through their journey to wellness. As a chiropractor, and from personal experience, Elaine recognizes and values that an interdisciplinary approach allows a patient’s health to be examined through many different facets, which better facilitates a patient’s overall health and wellbeing, and is a powerful method of empowering patients to achieve what they desire to be their wellness.

In her spare time, Elaine enjoys remaining physically active through weight lifting and related fitness activities, and enjoys taking yoga classes to address emotional fitness. In the winter, you can often find her playing indoor volleyball, but in the summer she prefers to spend her time on the golf course. Elaine is also a dog lover, and is looking forward to the opportunity to adopt a dog after she settles in Calgary.

After living in Ontario for 8 years, Elaine is very excited to be returning to her roots in the foothills in Calgary, and to be joining the team at Synergea to provide world class natural and collaborative health care to the Calgary community.
