About Holistic Nutrition
- Holistic nutrition is taking into account the whole person: spirit, mind and body, and his/her biochemical uniqueness. With this in mind, individuals are assessed for nutritional imbalances and weaknesses. A nutritional plan is then constructed with suitable food choices taking into account metal toxicity, micro-organism imbalances, food sensitivities, environmental pollution, differences in nutritional needs, body functions and DNA blueprint for each individual.
- Contrary to a Dietitian, which follows strictly the Canadian Food Guide, the holistic nutritionist designs a nutritional plan comprising ideally of whole, organic and natural foods. The goal is to aim at a better health and healing through nutrition.
FAQ
Why whole, natural and organic foods?
What we find in nature has been designed with all our body needs in mind. When man starts to alter food, the body most likely does not recognize it and that “new” food might satisfy the appetite, but might not satisfy the body’s nutritional needs adequately. Pesticides, additives, preservatives are too often added to the food we consume and causing detrimental effects to the body, either short or long term. Also, whole foods, like whole grains, contain all the necessary enzymes and nutrients to assist the body to assimilate and digest that food properly. When part of the food is removed, through processing, it not only decreases the nutritional value, but also the proper balance of enzymes and chemistry needed for digestion and assimilation, often requesting the body to treat this food as foreign, creating potential unpleasant reactions in your body. To ensure proper digestion, assimilation and reducing toxin storage in your body, it is evident that organic, whole, natural foods are the way to go!

They strictly follow and teach the recommendations set out by the Canadian Food Guide. They are registered to practice with the Health Professions Council and are regulated under the Regulated Health Practitioners Act. Registered Holistic Nutritionists have a Diploma in Applied Holistic Nutrition after an extensive practical and disciplinary program from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition. In addition to the core human nutrition courses such as anatomy and physiology, chemistry, advanced nutrition research, biochemistry, pathology and disease prevention and management; R.H.N.’s study holistic views of health and wellness such as herbal medicine, Ayurvedic medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition and the environment, the psychology of disease, natural supplementation, and holistic food preparation. They generally work in private clinics as educators and advisors on whole foods nutrition. Instead of only following the Canadian Food Guide, R.H.N.’s believe that each individual is biochemically unique, and they assess individual nutritional imbalances and weaknesses.
